Sedley's Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School

From tiny acorns mighty oaks grow. We plant the seeds, but it is God that makes them grow.

Pupil Premium

What is Pupil Premium?

The Pupil Premium is a government initiative that provides extra funding for pupils that are eligible for free school meals and is a means to address inequalities. Research indicates that pupils from deprived backgrounds underachieve compared to their non-deprived peers.

Currently, the premium goes to pupils who are currently on Free School Meals (FSM) or have been registered for (FSM) in the past six years, children in care, adopted children and service children also continue to qualify for the Pupil Premium. The Premium is provided to enable these pupils to be supported. The Government considers the above groups as indicators of deprivation, and has provided a fixed amount of money for schools per pupil based on the number of pupils registered for FSM over a rolling six year period. At Sedley’s we will be using the indicator of those eligible for FSM as well as identified vulnerable groups as our target children to ‘close the gap’ regarding attainment. As a school we recognise that barriers to achievement take a variety of forms and will do whatever it takes to support a child, both in and out of the classroom.  We use all our resources to ensure that every child has an equal opportunity to become an empowered learner.  In order to achieve this we offer our children a wide range of opportunities, we always make sure these are accessible for everyone.
