Yr 5 LO To solve problems involving converting units of time
LO To retrieve, record and present a range of relevant information about types of Victorian Schools.
The different types of schools during the Victorian era included boarding schools, public schools, ragged schools, dame schools and church schools. Children who didn’t go to school either worked or were taught at home by governesses. The 1880 Education Act made school attendance compulsory for all children between five and 10 years old.

Focus – summary and inference
In Chapter 2 you should have read about the hunt. Several dogs and men on horseback were chasing a hare. It was mainly considered a sport. This is called ‘hare coursing’; it got banned in the UK in 2004.
You would have read about how one of the riders, the Squire’s son, got injured and passed away and so did one of the horses.

Victorians believed that healthy bodies made healthy minds. All schools set aside time for exercise each day in an attempt to keep children fit and well.
During registration, you will have watched the presentation of two girls dressed up performing the Victorian Drills.
